Project Overview:
The Morley Ellenbrook Line (MEL) Pipeline Relocation project was undertaken to enable the installation of civil works associated with the Morley Ellenbrook overhead rail by MELconnx. Altrad (formerly Valmec) was engaged by ATCO Gas to execute the civil, piping, and installation works for the replacement high-pressure gas mains, leveraging its expertise in gas infrastructure to navigate the challenges of a congested worksite.
Scope:
Altrad’s scope of work included:
- Installation and replacement of steel high-pressure gas mains.
- Welding and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) in compliance with AS2885 standards.
- Coating of new pipeline sections.
- Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) and tie-in activities.
- Traffic management and community engagement to minimise disruption.
- Coordination with multiple third parties to ensure seamless project delivery.
Outcomes:
- Successfully relocated and installed high-pressure gas mains, enabling the MELconnx civil works to proceed without delay.
- Congested Work Site: Collaborated with ATCO and other stakeholders to manage interfaces and mitigate congestion-related delays.
- Weather and Permitting: Overcame challenges posed by wet weather and permitting processes through proactive planning and adaptive execution
- Delivered the project on schedule despite logistical and environmental challenges.
- Reinforced Altrad’s reputation for reliability in delivering critical gas infrastructure in urban environments.
